Detwon Rogers, a JUCO forward from College of Southern Idaho, pledged his future with UD. Apparently he was down to Dayton and Louisiana Tech — with Auburn, San Francisco and Wichita State showing some interest as well.
The 6’5″ forward will be eligible immediately, an academic Junior, joining Darrell Davis and Steve McIrvene as newcomers next season. Rogers averaged 16.7 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per contest. He shot a solid 75% from the charity stripe this year and hit 39% of his three-point attempts.
Rogers’ journey to Dayton has been arduous. After graduating from New Hanover High School in Raleigh, Rogers did a prep year at Body of Christ Christian Academy — a now defunct “Christian” school where kids go to improve grades. In 2011, Rogers briefly enrolled at Louisburg College but did not stick around long enough to suit up for the Hurricanes. His trail disappears until he randomly emerged at the College of Southern Idaho in the fall of 2012. He spent two season at CSI and now is the property of the University of Dayton. What a long, strange trip.
I have no idea how old this kid is, but I’m pretty sure he has been buying beer legally for a while now.
Of course, the question on everyone’s mind — will next year’s team be the first all-black version of the Flyers? Looking very likely, folks. Clutch those pearls.
