U. Dayton BasketballA Discomforting Homecoming

Well, that was interesting.

Archie’s 100th career win was definitely exciting and gave everyone a heart attack at the same time. This game had it all — the return of our Canadian brother, missed free throws, and a team that doesn’t usually shoot great from downtown, shot the lights out. A typical game.

I remember looking up at the scoreboard at one point and thinking, “WHOA, we’re up by TWENTY.” Ten minutes later I had a similar thought, “WHOA, we are only up by FOUR at the half.” I am still trying to figure out how exactly we managed to blow a 23 point lead and if anyone has any idea, let me know. If my calculations are correct, in the first ten minutes of the first half, Arkansas only scored 7 points, and in the last 10 minutes of the second half, Dayton managed to only score 8 points. Weird.

The biggest reason Dayton managed to blow such a big lead is unnecessary fouling. It was ridiculous. Big Steve had four fouls in a matter of about 10 minutes and we didn’t see much of him until the second half. We let them back into the game and like I said before, a team that usually isn’t great from behind the arc shot extremely well.

Why you are probably here is to read about the return of my man Dyshawn. It was, in my opinion, a very solid first game back for him. He played 33 minutes, which is WAY more than I was expecting, and managed to score 11 points and grab four boards, despite shooting less than 30% for the night. He got a standing O from the Sweater Army and the Arena was as LOWD as I have ever heard it. Glad to have him back, and really excited to see him start hitting shots.

Finally, that was one of the craziest finishes I have seen in a very long time. First, WE HAVE TO MAKE FREE THROWS IF WE WANT TO WIN BASKETBALL GAMES. We shot 70% for the night, which is not bad by any standard, but down the stretch it felt like we missed every other one. That simply cannot happen if we want to make a run in March. Second, allowing Arkansas to get off a really good shot off with 2 seconds left also cannot happen. Most of the time teams miss those, but not this time.

I have never heard the Arena get so quiet so quickly. The only thing I can compare it to is the loss to USC back in 2013. Dead. Quiet. What I am still trying to understand is why Archie didn’t ask them to foul before they could get a shot off. It worked in overtime, but why not earlier?

Overall it was good to get a win and getting to see Kendall Pollard flex is always a good day.

This is my first article on Blackburn Review. I’ve been doing photos for a while and usually sit on the court during games. Let me know what you think. Hopefully this is the first of many.

Six players in double figures. Nothing from the rest of the team (well, 1 pt from x-man). Seems an awful lot like last year but last year was fun so who cares. Also, this has been the best non-confrence slate of home games in 10 years. The close games are frustrating but entertaining.

Hey, at least we’re winning them this time around. Wasn’t it like 4 or 5 years ago we lost about 10 games by <5 points? They may look ugly doing it, but this team wins, plain and simple.

Archie is a genius, he just let’s his guys play. He knew the team needed a tight game before the conference play started so he let Arkansas back into the game. Then he intentionally throws the game by letting them get off a three to help the team by getting an OT experience. He just gets it. I am so excited to see what he is building here, the freshman all look like solid nightly contributors and he would be an idiot to ever leave a blue blood program like Dayton.

Roy, you’re almost as optimistic as your brother.

Blackburn, Roy’s brother is only optimistic after wins. He’s firing from the hip on the rivals site right now. I like Roy’s play though. Not at the level of tman and Tariq yet.

Im sure I could whip him into shape after a few games of 21 at the YMCA. We could sit in the sauna and discuss the angles of the shots

The Fuck happen to the rasist and sexistism articles? Blackburns sold the sight to a preteen from Jared Fondles C Drive.

Far too well written….where’s the sarcasm? This seems to be a UDPride recap……

The comment about getting to see Kendall flex was disturbing. Thanks for letting us know that you are priveleged and get to sit court side. If you are so fucking fortunate, why didn’t you take a few snap shots of the camera girl? I’m thinking Blackburn is going mainstream. He wants press credentials.

Sorry but this article was awful. Probably the most exciting, frustrating, complex storyline, total classic flyeria game and this recap manages to capture…..none of it. This recap made me miss Doug Harris’s DDN box score recaps. “Weird” is not a breakdown. Where were these topics…..How about Pierre going one for six then finding his rhythm late during crunch time. The ball found him at the buzzer for a potential amazing comeback game ender. Not to be. How bout going down 4 in OT to have the Defense get two steals. Scootch best game in a while, finally took over like he should in these close games. Sam Miller is what happened to our lead. There’s your answer. Might be interesting to mention Flyer fans love/hate relationship with Pollard and Kyles jump shooting/ free throw abilities. Big Steve can’t stay on the floor and the bench is getting shorter each week. The freshman are going to be total liabilities in conference play. Cooke is our non com MVP. Lastly I demand an investigation into the conspiracy that someone replaces our 2014 cut and drive ball movement offensive playbooks with the Brian Gregory three man weave outside the arc then chuck it offense.

    If the

Now write this in an entertaining, socially unacceptable way that offends at least three social groups and feminists everywhere. Stick to the formula, mention the photo booth girl, include one masturbation joke and use a random word from urban dictionary in the intro.

Thanks for the advice. This was my first article I’ve written, so I’m still learning. It was also written in about 20 minutes at 2AM and I was dead tired, so cut me some slack. Again, thanks for the advice, and providing actual ideas instead of just shooting stuff down. I appreciate it.

My advice: Photos of the Flyers were fine. However, I was expecting snapshots of a certain sideline reporter in attendance.

Good article, Matt. Thanks for writing and the pics.

Does anyone else want to say this was one of Archie’s worst in-game coaching performances of his career? Terrible use of subs let them back in it. Also, Big Steve is going to have growing pains. We need to learn how to play better when he gets 3 fouls in the first half.
