A season of ups and down ended with a pronounced thud yesterday afternoon, as your Dayton Flyers were trounced by Syracuse, 70-51, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

15 missed layups/dunks was obviously the story as far as Dayton’s offense was concerned. The Flyers continually shot themselves in the foot around the basket — UD had plenty of opportunities and simply failed to convert.

It was a replay of the 2014 game between the two teams – only this time Syracuse was able to knock down some jumpers. Both squads shot under 40% from the field (Dayton clocked in with an anemic 32%), the Flyers connected on just 27% of their three-point attempts. UD was outshot, outhustled, outrebounded and outcoached. It was a complete meltdown for the Gem City Cagers.

It was a season of missed opportunities. Dayton had an opportunity to play itself into a nice seed, but saw that scenario dwindle as they went through a slide in February. Middle Tennessee State presented the winner of the Syracuse/Dayton game with a very advantageous path to the tournament’s second weekend and the Flyers, unfortunately, will not be able to capitalize.

Now, we turn the page, turn down the LOWD and prepare for next year.

What was the point is even writing this? Captain obvious would approve. No speculation on what happened to this team mid season? Shit’s weak.

Pretty inconsistent team towards the end. I thought the defense would’ve been good enough to keep cuse in check. Obviously they can’t win shooting like they did but I was really hoping for Pierre or Cooke to step up and have a big performance. Oh well. Can’t be a big time program until you lay an egg in March *forced laugh* *soft fart*

Like Icarus of old, the Flyers flew too close to the sun (Top Fifteen ranking) and plummeted to the earth from the heavens. Six months for Rudy to re-arrange his wings and try again.

Please quit with the MSU lost so I’m sick about what could have been- Dayton sucks and shouldn’t have even made the tournament. Until they teach Koko how to catch the ball (admit it, you laughed) this team ain’t shit.
Love reading Pride and all the talk that the reason they lost was because Cooke fucked scoochies girlfriend. What a pathetic fan base. Hope none of the starters have to sit out for rape next year. At least we do things the right way…..

What little hope the Raiders ever had was extinguished last week when you fired Donlon. No strength coach and the lowest paid coaching staff in the Horizon league, but he still got you 22 wins and runner up in the conference. Yeah, that’s doing it right.

Wait for it…… There is a good chance wsu knows exactly what they are doing. Donlon was hated by everyone, he had to go. They are raising money for a coach that will blow some people away. I hope they pull it off.

I admit I am probably missing much of the story (there’s always more than on side) – I didn’t realize there was such disdain for Donlon. I hope you’re right about the new guy. As an alumnus of UD and WSU, I wish the best for both programs. Hope it’s the right move.

If I get one question to ask Archie it would be… Why didn’t the shooting drop off so suddenly with 10 games to play. 24% with plenty of open looks was mind boggling.

Depressing end to the season. We have to get better. Iowa was our best win a d they turned out to be not that good. Darrell has to get his shit together. Schoochie and Cooke are awesome. Kyle is good but could be better. The freshmen need to get their heads out of their asses. And, Archie needs to find us a shooter. Finally, I see Wherli finding a smaller D-1 school to play out his final year of eligibility. Thanks for a great year BBR! Keep the Sunday podcasts going next year.

Werhli is inconsequential. Better talent is always a plus, but honestly, I believe this season, especially February and March, was a complete coaching failure. If a single player had issues, you can blame the player; when the entire team plays this bad, this consistently, that is all coaching.

Be careful what you wish for…or who you blame. Archie Miller’s name being bounced all over sports talk in Pittsburgh…would be a stunner if Archie went back home and to the ACC…

If we have to lose him maybe this is the best time. Only one recruit at risk. I’m not as ready as some to canonize Archie. Never won the league. Has been incredibly lucky- if not for the miracle shot vs IUFW we don’t get to NCAA let alone elite 8. Did a horrible job down the stretch this year. Not sold on his ability to develop kids- Darrel Davis developed into a train wreck, Pollard and KD still can’t shoot, team stinks from the line, saw no improvement from the frosh. Hardly little Wooden.

Morgan was probably house shopping Raleigh and Pittsburgh on her rose gold iPhone 6s Plus before Dyshawn checked out for the last time. Colossal bed shitting. We played the Ewing Hoyas and Walton Bruins closer. Hoping that Archie stays for one more year to right this ship. Something went terribly wrong after George Mason. Leaking oil. Is the Cooke / Scoochie GF story really real? Would have enjoyed one final podcast to wrap up the year.

Think its more about the results. Lost the team down the stretch- everyone has injuries so don’t bore me with Pollards woes. Maybe we should have a sub??? One and done- lost 5 of last nine. Lost the A 10 championship- and really who did we beat– Monmouth??? And who are his best recruits??? See any of the new kids really contributing like at Xavier? – He’s Way, way– way overrated

You sir, are an idiot. The “freshman” at X that you are referring to must be Sumner. He is a redshirt freshman. X is also ahead in the game compared to us (bigger conference and a longer stretch of sustained success). And blaming the coach for the team’s struggles is very Cleveland Browns of you. Sometimes the other guys are just better. We beat VCU and Iowa. Both of these teams won as many tournament games this year at X. There are other coaches who are better than Arch. But they aren’t coming to Dayton. That is for damn sure. He is the hottest young coach in basketball. And for your “maybe we should have a sub” comment, you do realize that EVERY coach in basketball limits the bench when the games really start to count. Crosby will be a great player at Dayton among others that he has brought to us. Do you seriously not see Scooch getting better? His best recruits so far have been transfers, i.e Sibert and Cooke. Where would UD be without them? Get your head out of your ass and join the Pride message board. We aren’t going to get 5 star recruits and we aren’t going to win a national title. Winning 25+ games and making the tournament is a great start for our coach. We will only continue to get better as long as he is around. Success breeds success. Out.

While Orkie seems to be disoreinted, the $2 to $2.5 million is closer to the actual number than Blackburn’s $750k. Where the $100 million renovation number came from is fucking unbelievable. I thought that the UD simply sent out a survey with the intent to find out how much money they can fleece from the season ticket holders.

Archie is the hottest overrated young coach in America. He has yet to recruit one (1) senior in hs stud basketball player. Everyone to date has giant glaring holes in their game. Scoochie cant guard swampy. His only offense has come from hired gun cast-offs from other programs. He isn’t building jack shit here. When he leaves -and Pitt didn’t want him because people in Pittsburgh hate the friggin Millers – the program is screwed. I got $500 that says they don’t make the dance next year.

Disagree with Scoochie’s d but you are all right on Archie. Huge luck factor accounts for much of his limited success. No major recruits to date. No championship in the a A10 despite resources that dwarf any other team in the league. No more development of players than BG- seen what he’s done for DD, how about our foul shooting, taught Pollard or KD to shoot yet?? And the epic collapse of 2016!!! Hardly the boy wonder others paint him to be. Overrated is an understatement.
