Four consecutive wins,  including a victory last night against perennial thorn-in-the-side Rhode Island, has put Dayton back at .500 in league play and squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble (seriously). With a game in hand over La Salle, UD has captured sole possession of seventh place in the Atlantic Ten.

In just two weeks, the Flyers have gone from abysmal to kinda shitty. 20 wins, college basketball’s red herring of success, seems like a foregone conclusion at this point.

Chalk up the win to Dyshawn Pierre’s effort and the Flyers’ accuracy from the charity stripe. Pierre earned his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 21 and pulling down 12 rebounds in the 76-69 victory over the Rams. When Pierre is playing like that, UD is tough to beat and can compete with just about anyone.

Dayton was able to shut the door on URI from the free-throw line, connecting on 24-of-29 attempts (83%). Khari Price played the closer role this time around, connecting on four straight free-throws to put the game out of reach.

Once again, Rhode Island experienced little resistance defensively from UD. The Rams shot 52% from the field last night and even out-rebounded Dayton, 32-29. Turnovers, however, undid URI (Rhody turned it over 18 times on the night), leading directly to 18 points for the Flyers.

After a much needed week off, the Flyers return to the Arena to face Dr. G’s underachieving La Salle Explorers next Wednesday at 9PM.
