Proving that waiting is for suckers, Butler University has decided to forego any further delay and join the Atlantic Ten…IMMEDIATELY!!!

From something called the Sporting News:

Virginia Commonwealth, which joined Butler at the 2011 Final Four, also is joining the A-10 this fall. The A-10 will have 16 teams this winter, with Charlotte (Conference USA) and Temple (Big East) subsequently withdrawing to join other leagues for 2013-14.

The Bulldogs return four of their top five scorers from last season’s 22-15 team and add transfer Rotnei Clarke from Arkansas. They should rank as one of the A-10’s favorites in their initial season.

Butler has been part of the Horizon League since 1979, but recently announced its decision to upgrade to the A-10. The Bulldogs won five of the past six Horizon League regular-season titles and has made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances as a member of the league.

With the immediate addition of VCU and Butler, coupled with the strong return of St. Louis, UMass and St. Joseph’s, Dayton’s path to success in the A-10 conference has become increasingly tenuous. I really hope Mitch Asmus is working on his mid-range game.
