there are five people in my Criminal Evidence class right now 5, I'm not shitting you, our teacher is trying to hold class normally, of the five people who are here guess who one of them is? yep Marcus Johnson
Full disclosure: I'm going to the NIT game tonight, but only because I have to drive to Chicago at 6AM tomorrow and thus don't want to drink. UD Pride says 3,500 tickets have been sold. Attendance prediction: 6,293.
Seton Hall fired Bobby Gonzalez, presumably for being an insane dickbag. Certainly not for lack of results, he turned that program around on the floor. Really takes the sting out of Wabby's prime new home and home series next year.
1. Plenty of minutes for Benson and Searcy. What good is this post season experience if Big Kurt sucks up all the minutes. 2. Chris Johnson to show that he is still interested in competing for UD - he has averaged 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds over the past 9 games. There was a lot of talk about him being our "best player" earlier in the season. 3. A win over UC. 4. Mark Adams broadcasting UD games again. He was excellent last night calling the USF-NC State game. 5. A merciful ending to a painful season.
If you think Dayton is a run down shitty college town with nothing to do, go to Normal, Illinois. A college in the middle of a fucking corn field, with nothing to do in the whole town besides a 2nd division Arena football team, a shit load of shitty restaurants, and a bunch of hillbillies. Really, a nice mirror town for Dayton.
The line "do you have any Irish in you? Do you want some?" will be used over 10 times tonight in the ghetto: 2:1 Disab is responsible for 50% of the times the above pickup line is used: 3:1 The number of houses playing flogging molly and dropkick murphys will top 75% of the houses in the ghetto: EVEN The quote attributed to David Letterman that "There are four places to be on St. Patrick's day: Dublin, New York, Chicago & the University of Dayton." will be quoted 100 times as facebook statuses: 4:1 The amount of people who actually believe Letterman actually said it will be over 3000: 3:1 A freshman refusing a beer because they aren't Irish: 1,000,000:1 More people show up for last night's play-in game between whothefuckareyou college and weshouldbeindivision3 tech than tonight's NIT game: OFF
Yeah CJ went from "best player on UD" status to not the best player on ud status at the end of the past two seasons.
His goal for next year has to be playing a full season without wearing down and sucking up worthless minutes for this team. He also needs a right hand ... has anyone ever seen him use it? Maybe that is why he just hung around the three point line the last 10 games.
This team will be much better than last years if the following happen ... CJ works on a driving game and a two point game and Wright works on his Mid-Range game. With scoring guards and athletic as fuck wings to clean up the misses ... that has the makings of a good college basketball team.
Starting to think Wabbs should start declining NIT invites if they're going to continue to seed UD below inferior teams just because they'll make more money if the game is at their home court (UD vs UC in Cincinnati instead of here this year). Same thing happened two years ago with OSU...Flyers were first team out on a lot of people's lists yet got a 3 seed in the NIT that year. Not that I give a shit about this season any more, but still annoying.
Unless of course someone can make an arguement for UC being a better team...
I just got from Duquesne's CBI game at Princeton. It was a Blackburn Review wet dream. Princeton started a total white-out. I had to check my calander to make sure it was still 2010 and I wasn't having a hot tub time machine moment.
BTW, how did UD ever get taken to OT and then lose to the Dukes this year?
I wouldn't exactly call that a complete game. It was butt ass ugly for 32 minutes. Illinois State wasn't a very good team. Dayton wins that one by 30 if they had really wanted to. But shit, if you have to be in the fucking NIT, you may as well win some games.
Watch them win at Cincy. I will be more pissed than happy, I think.
I think you're giving Illinois State too much credit. They bricked many open looks and were awful on FTs. Dayton didn't play well at all until there was about 8 minutes left.
How could I forget about the awesome 32 second shot clock violation. The ref bought it when the ISU band counted down early and called a shot clock violation with three seconds on the clock. Hi-fucking-larious. I guess it's the reffing NIT, too.
Highlights from the Nice Intangibles Tournament...
1. Just noticed that London out rebounded Kurt in the Ill St game. I can't believe during the next three years the only time i'll have to think about him is when I say "at least BG's not playing Kav as much as he played Kurt". It's like a dream come true. 2. All A-14 NIT Final still alive!!! 3. Arizona St becomes the first #1 seed to lose to a #8 seed since...well...who really gives a shit. 4. UD decides it's a good idea not to sell beer...during a postseason game...on St. Patrick's Day. I wonder how many people showed up, found this out, said "fuck this, lets go to Flanigans" and walked out.
@ Seacur - I thought someone was saying he was a good coach of the future in another topic, or are you cleverly trying to remind us of the comments that you made? If so, I tip my hat good sir.
St. John's coach fired today. Can the siren song of the Big East attract BG?
@BRPride...shame on you. You should have known that the the NCAA does not allow beer to be sold at NCAA or NIT games. Dayton only sells beer because it is a private university. I don't think any public university is allowed to sell beer at sporting events.
@ Donoher You're absolutely right, I should have known. I should never have relied on my buddy telling me they didn't sell beer and then just assume that it was UD's decision. I know you, as the greatest blogger the world has ever seen, would never make such a hasty mistake. I should have done what you would have done...spent as long as it takes to research NIT and NCAA rules, called UD Athletics, called the arena until I was certain I had the correct information before commenting. I have failed to live up to the incredibly high standards that you maintain in each and every one of your posts. I will now go wallow in all the shame that you have rightfully bestowed upon me.
Then again, maybe I wont. In short...go fuck yourself.

@Mick...is that b/c the stadiums are off campus? I think that might be the rule. I have no idea. I just wish they sold beer at OSU football games. Nothing more depressing than drinking all day and then having to sit through a 3+ hour game sobering up.
And yes, I bring in a flask at times. But that's just not the same. Unless you are O'Brien. The man loves his whiskey.
@Mr. Donoher....UC's football and basketball stadiums are on campus. I'm not sure what the exact rule on selling alcohol on campus is. BGSU sells beer in a booster tent in an end zone and has sold beer to the public for certain games.
The Big 10 doesn't sell alcohol in their facilities. It just varies by school during the season, but schools can't serve alcohol at any NCAA sanctioned tournaments. It's shit.
After seeing Xavier make another Sweet 16, Brian Gregory would like to remind you that Dayton has made an Elite 8 just two years ago and is currently in a Sweet 16 this year, as also has won the second most postseason games in the A10 in that three year span.
I kid, but you know that will be in the preseson hype video come October.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day from Good ole UD

Is he drinking? There's still time to get in a bet for Illinois St...
I want what Blackburn wants, especially the attendance and the throwbacks.
But none of that will happen. It'll be more of the same bullshit.
Full disclosure: I'm going to the NIT game tonight, but only because I have to drive to Chicago at 6AM tomorrow and thus don't want to drink. UD Pride says 3,500 tickets have been sold. Attendance prediction: 6,293.

@Adam: Seton Hall is going to be shitte for years to come. Might as well close that program down, Terry Dehere isn't walking through that door.
Illinois State's mascot looks like a retarded bird in the schedule column
Holy Shit...Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington test positive for cocaine last season.
What do you think Brian Gregory would test positive for?
My guess: Gin and High School scouting reports.
My wish list:

@O'Brien My guess: Failure

Odds for the day:
The line "do you have any Irish in you? Do you want some?" will be used over 10 times tonight in the ghetto: 2:1

The number of houses playing flogging molly and dropkick murphys will top 75% of the houses in the ghetto: EVEN
The quote attributed to David Letterman that "There are four places to be on St. Patrick's day: Dublin, New York, Chicago & the University of Dayton." will be quoted 100 times as facebook statuses: 4:1
The amount of people who actually believe Letterman actually said it will be over 3000: 3:1
A freshman refusing a beer because they aren't Irish: 1,000,000:1

Just got to the nit game and they're not serving beer. I came to this shit game just to drink. Only about 3500 here
@ Ginter: demand a refund. This game is unbearable without alcohol

Dayton plays its first complete game since Xavier/Charlotte week ... two weeks too late ... sigh.
Oh what could have been ..........
I wouldn't exactly call that a complete game. It was butt ass ugly for 32 minutes. Illinois State wasn't a very good team. Dayton wins that one by 30 if they had really wanted to. But shit, if you have to be in the fucking NIT, you may as well win some games.

They win by 30 if they don't play walk-ons.
Hard to nit pick when Dayton allows 39 points before walk-ons enter.
That was a complete game.
I think you're giving Illinois State too much credit. They bricked many open looks and were awful on FTs. Dayton didn't play well at all until there was about 8 minutes left.

Just found out that the game at Cincy is on Monday, and I got mildly excited because I will be back from Chicago. Help me. Please.
UConn / Va Tech on Espn at 7 .... Dayton / Cincinnati on Espn at 9 ..... I guess the NIT ended up being a good alternative.
Obviously the goal is NCAA ... but this year, it ended up not being AS bad.
@Adam: there is no help for you.
Richmond choked. rofl. 5-bid league my white ass.

NIT prohibits sale of alcohol -- not UD's decision.
Has anybody on here been touting Ohio U's coach? I heard some good things about him, but I'm not sure from who??
@ Seacur - I thought someone was saying he was a good coach of the future in another topic, or are you cleverly trying to remind us of the comments that you made? If so, I tip my hat good sir.
St. John's coach fired today. Can the siren song of the Big East attract BG?
Matt - there was nothing clever about it. Just tooting my horn, which is what I'm best at.
@Matt: the thought of St. John's hiring BG just made me chortle. L-O-L-Z
@ Blackburn A bhoy can dream can't he?
@BRPride...shame on you. You should have known that the the NCAA does not allow beer to be sold at NCAA or NIT games. Dayton only sells beer because it is a private university. I don't think any public university is allowed to sell beer at sporting events.
id love for BG to leave and then UD can get a legit coach who doesn't watch his team shit down their pants with a 10 or more point lead any more
JC Clearly Lovers JC after that performance.
@ Donoher

@Donoher - We sell beer at UC football and basketball
@Mick...is that b/c the stadiums are off campus? I think that might be the rule. I have no idea. I just wish they sold beer at OSU football games. Nothing more depressing than drinking all day and then having to sit through a 3+ hour game sobering up.
