A Flyer Threesome in Germany?
July 30, 2010
Tom Blackburn In the interest of concocting content, no matter how prosaic, below is the press release regarding London Warren's signing on with the UBC Tigers:
Warren has convinced us mainly because of its clear role understanding. He is a true point guard and game designer, who always "thinks team first." It is also of great advantage that he has played with Charles Little three years together. Between the two there is blind trust! I think we are in this way a new quality level in the passing game and defense to reach, "said UBC coach Mahmut Ataman.
"As in the past, we are committed to absolute defender of them players from the same team. The fact that it worked again this year with two exceptional talents pleases us even more. Warren is an energetic player who can drive a team and also an excellent defender." said sporting director Michael Goch.
Due to my limited vocabulary, I cannot express how fond I am of the term "game designer." Expect to see that term peppered in every other post this season (in between intense discussions about leggings).
I'm not so sure about the "blind trust" between Charles Little and London Warren however. As Charles told me recently, "out of the ten most fucked-up things I have ever seen, London accounts for six of them." September can't get here quick enough.
On a related note, UBC has reached out and inquired about Marcus Johnson's status for the upcoming season. Although it would be great to see a UD trio barnstorming around Germany, I don't see this happening for a number of reasons. Chief among them would be the salary being offered, a mere pittance for someone with MJ's wants and needs (unfortunately, UD boosters are no longer making those Charger payments). I think we will see MJ end up in the NBDL this fall, or perhaps in an upper-level European league if the chips fall in his favor.
If the three did opt to join forces this fall, it would be the accumulation of the most non-numerical tattoos the good people of Germany have ever seen.

@ Mr. B
"the accumulation of the most non-numerical tattoos the good people of Germany have ever seen."
You take my breath away
Signing London is about the best thing a Euro team can do. He's a guaranteed fan favorite, and the merchandising basically writes itself (I <3 London tshirts, anyone?) The man is a born entertainer, perhaps one of the greatest showmen on and off the court that UBC will ever see.
If Marcus joined London and Chaz, are we allowed to draw comparisons to Lebron, Wade, and Bosh in Miami?
^Only if they end up having a welcoming party in downtown Hanover complete with a rising stage, fog machines, a big-ass video wall, fireworks, strobe lights, etc.
London is going to be disappointed when he gets the munchies and learns that Synder's of Hanover is not based there.
Wow, Percy Gibson commits today, and all we can see on this site is info about former Flyers giving each other handjobs in Germany.
Going back to the article from Friday (The Doog's interview with The CW), here's a gem of a comment from it, from our buddy RR. Typical Dayton Daily Worker reader here.
"Another classic interview by the next big thing in sports media, AIRWright. This guy is going to make more money as an on-air personality than on the court. ESPN get a microphone ready. Chris is showing he's a monster!"
BTW, why the hell wasn't this interview done with a podium between CW and Doog? That seems to be CW's M.O. of late.
@hartsock: holy shit, THEE Percy Gibson? Just think, we only have 14 months until Gibson puts on a UD uniform.
We don't do recruiting over here, we let the creeps get hot and bothered about signees. We will worry about Percy next season. I'm not sure what else we could possibly add to Gibson's signing.
I'm also not salivating over the 60th best power forward in the 2011 class. Don't get me wrong, I don't put all too much weight in the recruiting rankings and position ranks, but to expect us to go gaga over a guy who is ranked lower than virtually every recruit we brought in in the 2010 class, is ridiculous. I will gladly surrender the recruiting schtick to Schwade.
@Harry: i didn't know the situation was that bad. I saw his scholarship offers, not impressive. You have any idea who else UD is looking at for the other 2011 scholarship?
Blackburn: Word is (from UD Pride) that BG offered a kid named George Fant from Kentucky. Highlight vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2ZFpm6qcK4
Also two kids from Michigan, LaDontae Henton and Trey McDonald
Looks like the last ship will come from one of those three.
@Adam: heard of McDonald, this is the first I'm hearing about Fant.
Gibson's high school coach has some gems in the DDN.
@ Blackburn - Like this: “I’m excited just to know I’ll spend three or four years in the city of Dayton, and I’m looking forward to it myself - not just from a personal standpoint, but being able to see my kid fulfill one of his goals and dreams. It’s fulfilling.”
Sweet, Gibson will go to the NBA after three years. SUPERSTAR!
@Adam: that's one of them. the other was projecting chris wright as a potential lottery pick. At least we know we have Percy Gibson for AT LEAST three years. That's comforting.
I know someone who is salivating over a tall teenager from Michigan coming to UD!!!
