There are so many fucking dorks coming out of the woodworks over at UD Pride, I would think that this Summer is the year of the Cicada. I can't take it anymore. I know friends that are serious UD fans, but have gotten kicked off the site just trying to keep their dorgasms to a minimum. I'm telling you....these guys are fucking dorks. All of them.
THAT's the thread you cite for the proposition that UD Pride is full of dorks? That one is fucking tame compared to this dude, the "unapologetic hair band fan" who is confused as to why most hair bands today come from Europe.
@John: obviously the post is going to be problematic this year. Of course, teams are going to pack it in against UD and make the Flyers hit from the outside -- so will it be a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same? From what I hear, Staten and Parker are certainly an upgrade offensively. We, as always, shall see.
As funny as it sounds ... if BREEEZE didn't get hurt we probably would have been in the dance. I think with our wings and what sounds like 1 and 2 guards who can shoot ... combine that with the wings and BREEEZE off the bench, it could be very interesting.
I really think our team changes this year in philosophy. I think we will score 75-85 more often then play 50 point games ... it could be a run and gun more than a stay and scrum style.
In most all cases 1st year players need time to adapt and the rest of the team needs time to adapt to new players.....this seems to be especially true with a point guard. So I would expect the new guards to be less effective in the beginning of the season than Warren and Lowery were during the NIT run....I know , I know....that sounds pretty scary......BUT.....I think most everyone agrees , given a little time , the new guards will be a big upgrade ...better in almost every catagory..(although the jury is still out about their defensive play..) The outside shooting from the new guards should be GREATLY improved.....LW is the worst jump shooter in the history of BB
RLH ... Why? Josh Parker has been with the program for a year and has practiced everyday for 15 months with the team. He knows the plays, he knows how to guard, he knows the system.
He can step in right now, which is why I think he will start over Staten ...
Practicing and playing are two entirely different animals. Chances are the team doesn't look pretty early on. Hopefully they can still beat Ole Miss on the road and Cincy in the "neutral" game. They're probably going to lose 4 OOC games, maybe 5. The key, though, is that this year's team should actually get better as the season progresses, unlike years past. Right now I say they finish 3rd in the A10, although I wouldn't be shocked if them and Xavier go 1-2 either way. Getting Temple and Richmond at home is a virtual guarantee of 10 wins.
@ Adam ... I think the team as a whole is better than last year, as you mention.
I do not think it will take too long to get things going. Considering Parker played really well in the MVC and has been practicing for a year and scrimmaging, he will be game ready. I really foresee our offense being explosive from the beginning of the year. The key will be limiting Staten's mistakes, because he is going to make some early on.
I don't see four or five losses in the OOC ... however I have not done my research yet on the other teams.
As we all know anyways, if they don't win 10-12 games in conference the OOC doesn't matter. We have the best wings in the league, let's hope by the time A-10 play rolls around Staten is playing well and Parker/Spearman are shooting the lights out from the 2.
I agree with Adam... real game experience is different than practice....I don't believe it will take long ..maybe 6 or 7 games... but the team will need some time to gel....the wings will need to lead the way during those games for us to be succesfull to start the season and I think they will do just that......I also agree that we will only get better as we move thru the season.....Talent wise I think we all agree this years team is way of ahead of last year due to the potential of the new guards......
John you are continuing to overlook the fact that CJ does not own a right hand. I have a very strong feeling that the CJ we are going to see this year is the CJ of the end of last season, not the CJ from the beginning. The reason for this is that the beginning of last year he was an unknown, once teams started to see more of him, they adapted to stop him. The fact that he cannot use his right hand, greatly limited his effectiveness during the stretch of last year.
Also, I'm going to go ahead and predict that Spearman has a more productive freshman campaign than Staten does, I'm just sayin'.
Those were CJ's last 5 games ... if this is what you were talking about with a lack of a right hand then I'll take it every time.
Yes, I understand your point about the non-right hand. I even echoed that same opinion ... however there is still no better wing tandem in our league. So if Parker and Staten can be better offensively and turn the ball over less than London and Lowery I think this team will be better.
I do agree with you, I think Spearman or Oliver are going to be the best freshmen on the team this season.
If Staten goes 7.5 pts, 3.5 assts a game that is huge and sadly an upgrade over our guards last season.
Staten has a year of seasoning as a result of Oak Hill that is a huge advantage over the others. He may not be the best when they leave UD, but he better be the best as a freshman. A press conference might be needed to settle this.
@ John, think your 5 is correct, with Staten being the only chance to be in the mix. Have to question how you Oliver is possibly going to be the best freshman if you can't sneak him in your top 10?
@Charles Hustle ... Yeah, I guess I am two-facing on Oliver ... He is a wing type player and we are loaded with those this year, especially if you have Benson coming off the bench ... I think he is one of the most talented new player we have ... he just may not get a shot.
John-I agree on your top 10 as well. I could see Staten and Parker getting minutes together as well.
Where do you all think Luke is going to get his minutes this year? At the 4 and maybe 3 occassionally? He is going to be a liability on defense at either spot for different reasons, but I'm curious what everyone thinks about where he is going to fit in this year.
@John-Wheres Ralph Hill? You see him getting any minutes at the 4? Depending on how the season plays out, I could see him similar to a Benson mold from last season where he got spot minutes earlier in the season, but earned more PT throughout the season. If Ralph Hill's death stare pictures are any indication, it looks like he'll be a tenacious rebounder.
We will see on Ralph ... I think Devin is better from certain reports ... just too many wings this year for those guys to make an impact. When CW is gone and then CJ is gone it will be a different story.
BREEEZE was awesome last year when healthy. I am thinking he plays 15-20 minutes per game this year if healthy. I also see our shooting being a strong point this year. From all accounts Staten, Parker and Spearman can shoot, throw CJ and BREEEZE into the mix as well. Benson also has a mid-range and Paul Willy is at least streaky.
Anyways, I am excited just to get that ball bouncing again.
NBA GM's opinion of CW that is sure to be a 65 post string of comedy on UDPride. The GM must be trying to downplay CW's skillz in order to steal him in the draft.
Chris Wright, SF, Dayton "Another small power forward. He reminds me of Al Thornton or Thaddeus Young. He's not a skilled guy, he just out-athletes guys. But he is doing it in the A-10. During the workouts he looked small agaisnt Team USA. He is supposed to be 6-8 but when he matched up with Rudy Gay and Kevin Durant he looked small."
Problem is, that GM could be a good one like the Thunder's, or he could be David Kahn, who's mentally retarded. But that quote isn't breaking any new ground. If Wright were more than that quote he'd have been collecting paychecks 24 months ago.
As for next year, look out for Ralph Hill. Smoothest jumper on the roster, even better than CJ. Oliver is the one more likely to scrap for minutes because he can't shoot as well as the others. Neither will get big minutes, but I could see Ralph getting 8-10 and Oliver 4-6.
Lukey Luke will get 12 a game. BG knows the drill, you bring him on in 90 second spurts. Hopefully you are able to time it out so he goes against the backup 4 on defense.
Ever look at Jamario Moon's career path? Went to a community college, played for teams in Mobile, Dodge City, Rockford, Gary, Marietta, a stint with the Globetrotters, a Mexican team... and that's just a cliff notes version. Not exactly a favorable comparison if you're trying to show CW will stick in the NBA from day 1.
I think most of us agree he will get drafted somewhere with a good senior year. Whether or not he sticks is another issue.

Press conference! (kinda)

Only thing he needs now is a podium.
I'm almost embarrased to associate myself with this program:

The real question is ... if Staten and Parker are an upgrade from Lowery and London how good can this team be?
No one in the A-10 is even close to having a wing tandem like ours. Our wing tandem may be a top 15 in the country.
The question is ... what about everyone else.
@John: obviously the post is going to be problematic this year. Other may be more productive on the stat sheet, but Staten will be the best freshman next year. And if he's not, NCAA hopes are up shit creek.
Staten has a year of seasoning as a result of Oak Hill that is a huge advantage over the others. He may not be the best when they leave UD, but he better be the best as a freshman. A press conference might be needed to settle this.
So who is your guys starting five?
I'm going ... Parker, Williams, CJ, CW and Searcy
1st five off bench ... Benson, Staten, Spearman, BREEEZE, Kav
Yes? No? Thoughts?
@John: I agree. Gotta think that Parker has the edge over Staten going into the fall.
@ John, think your 5 is correct, with Staten being the only chance to be in the mix. Have to question how you Oliver is possibly going to be the best freshman if you can't sneak him in your top 10?

I'm thinking Staten may have had a stipulation in his contract that requires him being a starter from day one.
We will see on Ralph ... I think Devin is better from certain reports ... just too many wings this year for those guys to make an impact. When CW is gone and then CJ is gone it will be a different story.

By Devin I meant Oliver.
There is noway Fab gets 15-20 mins with his defense
@Doug: couldn't agree more. UD prides itself on athleticism and pressure D. No way Luke gets 15-20 mins in BG's system.
He averaged 10 a game roughly last year ... this year he is a Junior and this year our team will be scoring more than playing defense.
Get ready for a change in style boys, in our little NIT Run we ran down throats. Now we have the guards to do it more.
If Luke doesn't play 15 min a game (if healthy all year) I'd be slightly shocked.

We all know CW's shortcomings ... with all that ... he will average 16-10 this year and be drafted.
Once again, my dick is better than Jamario Moon and he is in the league. Moon has the same exact skill set as CW, except CW can catch a basketball.
Rick Majerus isn't a big Gay guy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RXaERVhNuU
@John
Actually Moon's got a much more credible shot.
Moon's career NBA line : 48%/34%/80%
Wright's career college line: 45%/23%/69%
Wright, despite your assertion of having good hands, turns the ball over a lot (>2.0/gm), while Moon takes care of the ball (0.5/gm).
I'd also say Moon's a better athlete. He sticks out in the NBA as particularly athletic. While Wright is explosive, he lacks lateral quickness.
At first blush they may seem comparable, but Wright's still got a long way to go before he'll fill the modest shoes of a Jamario Moon.
@Oliver: you won that round.
Ever look at Jamario Moon's career path? Went to a community college, played for teams in Mobile, Dodge City, Rockford, Gary, Marietta, a stint with the Globetrotters, a Mexican team... and that's just a cliff notes version. Oliver ... touche.
I hate Jamario Moon still.
