This team does not deserve a full recap, so instead, I wrote a few paragraphs about the game so we didn’t have to fully re-live the events of Saturday afternoon. I mean, when you REALLY think about it, what is there to write? You went in knowing URI was way more talented than UD, they were. You went in feeling like UD would probably get dominated in most aspects of the game, they did. Everything was predictable, everything that you thought would happen, did happen.
The most telling part of the UD game, to me at least, was the comment made by Danny Hurley after the game to the affect of “We didn’t care about Josh Cunningham 2-pointing us to death, if we stopped the guards we knew they were screwed.”
That couldn’t possibly be more accurate.
Josh finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds in what really was offensive dominance, even if it was due to the allowance from the URI gameplan. For the 1000th game in a row, UD was beaten by the opponents best players, Jared Terrell finished with 24, EC Matthews with 17. URI shot an even 50% from the field, and pretty much scored at will.
With that said, this is the worst defensive UD team we have seen in quite some time, possibly even before the Gregory era altogether. On a nightly basis you can count on UD jerseys chasing the perimeter, getting blown past, and giving up loads of uncontested looks. Writing recaps is difficult because we have all said these things many, many times before.
Couple quick thoughts and then Blackburn will get to the recon:
- I never know what Matej Svoboda is doing, ever. Blackburn isn’t sure he knows all the rules, jury is out.
- The biggest mystery on this team is Kostas. Flashes of brilliance continue, consistent brilliance: absent.
- The boys at A10 Talk ask for rankings every week, and from looking at the A10 top to bottom, UD deserves to be squarely in the middle in my very humble blogging opinion. THAT is how bad the conference is this year. URI will run away with this one by a few games, rest of league will just have to do their best to come prepared in DC.
- Jordan Davis didn’t score any points on Saturday. Not sure what that is all about, either. Just so many questions and so little time, you guys.
