Day is Done, Gone the Sun...

Get your tissues ready blog fans. This is going to be a tear jerker. Or if you are like DiSab, you already carry tissues with you when you read the blog because this is your version of xnxx.com (SO not safe for work). The season is over and I have to admit, I am bummed. Yes, this team frustrated me to no end, but what a run! If someone would have told me that Dayton would win 27 games, beat Xavier, and win an NCAA Tournament game, I would have called you crazy and gotten pissed at you for being a Ham and Egger. So why all the sadness? No, I am not quitting the blog (sorry John). I would like to take this time to thank Tom for allowing me to join a Dayton Flyers basketball blog, even if I didn't go to the University of Dayton. I never thought I'd have so much fun writing for a blog. This season, Dayton definitely had it's up's, but also had it's down's. But all in all, it was a great year. I am definitely happy to be part of this season.

Now...what can you expect from the blog this summer and next year? Yes, Tom and I are coming back in full force. We thought about shutting it down and going out on top, but we were scared that Ryan and Co. would hunt us down and kill us. Having full time jobs is nothing. You'd be surprised but writing for the blog isn't THAT hard. The hard part is getting motivated. With me living in Columbus and Tom living in New York City, it's difficult to follow the Flyers when all we have to rely on is the Dayton Daily News or the gestapo over at UDPride. I know I speak for Tom when I say that it is the readers that make this blog so special and fun to do. Some of the comments have made me laugh out loud, while some have made me want to punch someone in the face (BrownsFlyer and PJF). All kidding aside, it's nice knowing that even though BrownsFlyer dislikes me, that he/she keeps coming back and reading. So thank you. As for the summer, Tom and I are going to take a break. We are going to limit our posts to one a week which will be sort of like an email conversation between the two of us. These emails will talk about a range of things that might include Dayton basketball (how the Dayton Athletics will surely increase ticket prices this summer), non-Dayton basketball news (how Jack Black is really not that funny), and the completely absurd (how chair covers for a wedding reception cost $4.00 a piece). Of course, if anything huge breaks, like Luke Fabrizius transferring (at least, that's what the email from his dad to Tom said), we will be all over it like stink on a monkey. We also have at least two interviews with former players set up (hint: B.R. and R.M.) that will be posted here in the next few weeks. In terms of next season, we are going to come back stronger and better than ever. We have reached out to someone and starting next season (possibly this summer), Jim O'Brien will be writing for the blog. Whether or not that is a bad omen, I guess we will find out. So thanks again for everything and please check in this summer. First up this/next week: "A look forward for UD Basketball." And to show there are no hard feelings, here is a picture of Sophia Bush that will get you through this difficult time. Take it away Sarah!

Damn right Ryan and Co. would hunt you down and kill you! haha Seriously though, I looked forward to reading the blog before every game and all the insightful details on our opponents. Never a dull moment...

Also, my luck would be I would win the bracket pool and you two would hit and run with the cash and the Brad Mac Bobblehead and then I really would have a reason to hunt you down and kill you.

Nice work all season long gentlemen!

Thanks for the time and effort. Good night sweet commenters.

Good night.

You guys were awesome this year. I loved reading it. The posts I made were usually made in joking fashion or drunk. I never laughed so hard reading about UD Hoops, it was great.

And as always -- as Teddy Roosevelt says (in referring to Luke Fab), "Bring the heat you mother fucker."

I just wanted to let you know I have enjoyed reading your blog this year. It is a good break from UDPride.com and Flyerhoops.net. Keep up the good work.

Go Flyers!

@Don

From deep down in my stomach, with every inch of me, I pure, straight hate you. But goddammit, do I respect you!

All kidding, aside I appreciate all the hard work both you and Tom have put into the blog. Thanks for everything, even if you never went to UD and instead went to Miami, where you would wear pink J.Crew polos with your collar popped and holding a Natty Light in your hand. I just like busting your balls buddy.

PS Thanks for the double shout-out in your post.

I just saw Brad Mac miss a wide open layup at the recplex

Is Jim O'Brien going to write three shitty posts for the blog and then move to deadspin?

I already said my tear filled goodbye in the Kansas:Recon post, so...er...bye.

Looking forward to next year guys. I came in a little after the season began, but a day didn't go by when I didn't come back at least once. Hell, you guys got me started on blogging, and got me to start my own blog. Thanks for a great season, a so much laughs.

Blackburn, Donoher,

Stephen Curry's little brother just left Liberty after averaging the highest ppg among freshman this year. If I remember correctly he's about 6'2" and 160 pounds soaking wet with a ZTA hanging on his balls.

Thinking out loud here, and I'm aware this is completely wishful thinking, but chances none of the top BCS conference teams take him, and he looks at a high ranked mid major with upside that needs a shooter and goes with UD? We could use a compliment on the wing who can also spell London.

I know, I know its a wet dream. But the kid is a sharp shooter and adding him to the roster could make us the A10 favorite and looking for another tourney appearance.

I'm a moron aren't I? Well come on a kid can dream right?

03.25.2009 | Unregistered CommenterJersey

WOW, UD Pride beat me to it by 24 hours. Those bastards are taking over the world.

The difference of course being I was dreaming, they appear to be serious.

03.25.2009 | Unregistered CommenterJersey

Except that he would have to sit out a year and wouldn't be playing next year for UD

03.25.2009 | Unregistered Commenterzmz

plus ud doesnt have a scholarship to give him right now unless they force out someone

03.26.2009 | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

I dont have a crystal ball or anything...but something tells me a scholarship is about to open up.

And does he have to sit out a year if he claims that he fled due to religious persecution? I mean, have you ever seen Jerry Falwell? One of the scariest men in America.

This season was a blast, and Blackburn Review was a major part of that for me. Excellent work, guys.
