Dayton didn’t shoot the ball particularly well (Pierre, Sibert and Price were a combined 8-of-25 from the field), but got the job done in crunch time, outscoring Bonnie 12-5 over the last four minutes of the game. Devin Oliver hit four clutch free-throws to close it out, Flyers win 72-69.
The win brings UD’s record to 16-8 on the season, 4-5 in conference play. Dayton has now won three straight games and remarkably pushes their road record to 5-3 on the year. The Flyers share seventh-place in the league with La Salle.
The plan going forward is rather simple — win out at home, UD has four games left to play at the Arena (Rhode Island, La Salle, UMass and Richmond) and try to get two more road scalps (UD has games on the road against Duquesne, St. Joe’s and Saint Louis) before the regular season ends. Depending on what unfolds over the coming weeks, the game at Saint Louis, on March 5th, could loom extremely large for UD.
Of course UD could just close out the season with ten consecutive wins and make it easy on us, but that ain’t fucking happening.
