[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Well, we made it. After a season of what could best be described as indifference, I’m still not over that St. Joseph’s College game, Flyer fans are rewarded with their just desserts. A fourth straight NCAA appearance sets a new standard for the Dayton Flier basketball program. Some say the journey is its own reward, that’s just loser talk for professional movers and absentee fathers. Results are what matter and Archie Miller and Co....

Is the bottom about to fall out completely? Find out tomorrow at noon! Make sure you vote for Archie in the Infiniti Challenge, whatever that is. Overview If there is one team in the Atlantic Ten that has been reeling worse than Dayton it’s the Rams of Rhode Island. This season, which held so much promise for Dan Hurley’s program, has been beset by injuries which have decimated URI’s preseason goals. Four of Rhode Island’s...

Blackburn is out for the weekend so Mr. Vines is here checking in for duty. Truth be told no one has a clue where he is, but he did post an intriguing Instagram last night: As I was getting chased out of Bargo’s and down Brown Street at 6am this morning, I remembered our Daytona Fliers are currently sitting atop the A10 all by themselves. DURRELL Davis with the game winner, just as we all predicted. 9 in a...

Huge game tonight for the Flyers as the head into Kingston, Rhode Island to take on the Rams. There’s plenty riding on this one: VCU lost last night to UMass, giving UD the opportunity to take over sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Ten AND Louisville, Iowa State, Texas A&M and SMU went down in defeat this week — four teams that are just in front of Dayton in the polls. Opportunities galore...

RecentA10 Futurism

Oregon lost to a team with real players on both lines, so it is now officially basketball season. As you know, the A10 is a league in transition. Some teams left, George Mason just kinda showed up, and Fordham is still a thing. Despite losing three key programs (and Charlotte), the A13 will be a rather strong league, at least in the immediate future. The Blackburn Review prides itself on bringing you the very best...

Not a lot of optimism for the Dayton basketball program at today’s conference media day in Brooklyn. UD was picked to finish seventh in the league and was completely absent from the conference’s three Preseason All-A10 lists. Maybe I’m just a silly goose, but I find this news to be ultra-depressing.

The A10 released the complete conference schedule this morning, with TV listings included. The Flyers will have a total of nine league games televised this season (in addition to the Iona game and Maui broadcasts), a huge upgrade from years past. In sum, there will be at least thirteen Flyer games on television this season. Now, instead of primarily using you laptop to watch a game, forgoing pornography, you can view a UD game on...

Year two of the Archie Miller Experience wrapped up with a spirited loss to Brad Stevens’ Butler Bulldogs in Brooklyn. The season seemed to peak around the Murray State loss, a victory that pushed the Flyers overall record to 9-3. Dayton began its conference schedule with visits to VCU and La Salle, with a home date against Butler sandwiched in between. The Flyers lost all three and placed themselves squarely behind the eight ball, never...

The season couldn’t have ended any other way. After losing a heart-breaker against George Washington (as was scripted), on a follow-up dunk by Isaiah Armwood, the Flyers had to lie in wait, relying on the results of the Saint Bonaventure/Fordham and Charlotte/St. Joe’s tilts. UD wouldn’t have to wait long, as the Fordham Rams hung on to defeat the Bonnies, winning a game they theoretically had no business even caring about. The Ram win was...

Another heart-breaker against the Rams puts UD on thin ice for Brooklyn. From Rhode Island blog, Rhody Rampage: The Rhode Island Rams did it again. Another last-second shot by Rhody sank the Dayton Flyers for the third year in a row (if you can believe it), and the Rams came away with a dramatic 75-72 victory at the Ryan Center. Marquis Jones, who wore number 5 for URI, beat Dayton in 2011 with a circus...

Whenever faced with an intolerable situation – whether it’s a terminal marriage, an unrewarding job or an overwhelmingly disappointing season of mid-major college basketball – it’s natural, expected really, to ponder the future and envision a path of good fortune lying ahead. Whether or not this is a clinically recommended course of action is beside the point (it’s not), it’s simply a way for normal humans, people who don’t read this site, to deal with...
