This morning we woke up to news that Anthony Grant signed the first recruit of his tenure: three-star point guard out of Memphis, Jalen Crutcher.

Praise the Good Lord Jesus Christ, we have a Point Guard on our roster (with perhaps another being re-added in the near future). Some people will credit Grant’s resume and charm behind the signing, but anyone with a brain knows the real heroes are the grown men who spent the last month tweeting at the young man. Not all heroes wear capes; you gentlemen deserve all the praise, which I’m sure that other Dayton hoops “site” will handout sometime later today.

The 6’3″ guard originally signed with Chattanooga, but when they lost their coach Matt McCall to the UMass job, he asked to be released. Our friend Jablo dug up an old quote from McCall when he originally signed Crutcher who described him as a “high-level talent at the point guard spot” and said “he can really, really shoot”. He’s also described as “a rangy guard that’s great on the defensive end” and “great at distributing the rock and setting up teammates”. The 6th ranked recruit out of Tennessee and Top 75 nationally at his position, he also received offers from Missouri State, DePaul, Cal State Bakersfield, Dunk City, Murray State, Towson, and Pacific.
There was never a doubt that The General would land a PG at some point this offseason – the job is too attractive not to. Come in as a freshman and have a shot to start/get some serious PT in front of the LOWD crowd? Not the hardest sell there is. There’s also some potential for some A+ post-game interviews for the next four years:

In other news: our boy Mikesell will be undergoing double hip surgery this May and June, with a conservative recovery timeframe set at six months. That, along with Sam Miller’s broken bone, will leave a few more questions than expected for Grant this summer. But that, my friends, is for another day: it’s a sunny Saturday in May and there’s boozin’ to be done.
