Grudge Match Completed

miamihartsockUD came, they saw, they survived. Like most trips to Oxford, it was never pretty and it was rarely entertaining. The Flyers were effective in the first half, shooting 46% from the floor and taking a 31-23 lead into halftime.

The second half started as a nice compliment to the first, as UD rolled to a fifteen point lead on Jalen Robinson three-pointer with fourteen minutes to go. The lead was increased to a comfortable sixteen when Ryan Bass laid the ball in with just over ten minutes to go in the game. Then the proverbial wheels came off, as they are wont to do when Dayton visits cavernous Millett Hall.

Willie Moore scored eight of his team-high fourteen points over the next two minutes, and suddenly the Flyers lead was trimmed to eight with eight minutes to play. Dayton essentially spent the rest of the contest from the free-throw line (UD didn’t even attempt a field goal in the final four minutes of the game), taking a mind-numbing twenty-two foul shots down the stretch. The Flyers hit sixteen of those shots from the charity stripe and mercifully closed out the RedHawks, 66-62.

Devon Scott racked up another double-double and Kendall Pollard weeble-wobbled his way to a game-high fifteen points. The win pushes the Cagerz record to 5-1 on the season, with games against Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green sandwiched between their trip to Arkansas. UD should be in good shape heading to Fayettville, with a chance to notch an impressive win against the Razorbacks.
