Last night it was announced that a certain 6-foot-5 forward from Rochester, NY had officially committed to the Flyers for next season after sitting behind the bench for Friday’s game. Another big, athletic forward from New York? That’s one of Archie’s trademark moves, so it didn’t move the needle that much (not to say next year’s recruiting class isn’t STACKED). Until late last night when Scout.com’s Evan Daniels dropped this little fact:
Random nugget on new Dayton commit Naz Carter. He's the nephew of Jay Z.

Yes, you’re reading that right. Nahziah Carter made his commitment official this weekend, becoming the 4th recruit to Archie’s 2017 class.

Our boy David Jablonski got to speak with his high school coach Kevin Goode and wrote a detailed story on him. Some highlights:
“He’s going to fit right into the system they’re playing,” Goode said. “He’s a true gym rat, always focusing on how he can get better. His 1-on-1 skills are phenomenal. He’s very hard to guard. He’s been growing every year since eighth grade, two inches, three inches. I want to say he grew another 2½ inches over the summer. He’s gotten stronger. We did a lot of weight training. He’s just going to be a man-child in high school. He can jump out of the gym. He’s an exciting player.”
Carter was considering a year in prep school until recently. That’s why VerbalCommits.com listed him as a member of the 2018 class. Carter was the youngest player on the City Rocks Nike EYBL team last summer. He was 16. City Rocks President Jimmy Hart said two-thirds of the players in that league are 18, and the other third are 17.
Carter was a full year younger than most of the players and still led the team in field-goal percentage (59.2) and 3-point percentage (46.4). He averaged 10.7 points per game on a team full of Division I prospects, including Hameir Wright, the 16th-ranked recruit in the class of 2018.”
Raw talent, athletic, gym rat – no wonder Archie was licking his chops the first time he saw him. Give the kid a year or so under the Arch Man and we may get a real special player.
Now for the more serious questions:
- How long until Jay and Bey are sitting courtside with season tickets? And who else joins them? RiRi? DJ Khaled?
- Will Archie denounce his famous obsession with Alice in Chains and swear allegiance to Jay Z and the Black Album?
- Does Jay write a song – or anthem – for the Flyers? Maybe just about Archie?
- Do Naz and Greek Freak’s brother become the most electric duo we’ve ever had?
Now can I get an encore, do you want more

Brooklyn Rochester boy
So for one last time I need y’all to roar
P.S. Let’s not forget that Jay is a major player in the annual Entertainer’s Basketball Classic – guess it’s about time we move it to the Sweater Center.
