Ray’s Report

Ray’s Report

FOB Ray Floriani filed this post-game report for the UD/Richmond game.

Brooklyn, NY – Very little drama in this one. Dayton easily handled Richmond 69-54 in the first quarterfinal of the Atlantic Ten tournament. In tempo free terms Richmond has been very efficient on offense, not as much on defense. Their adjusted offensive efficiency (per KenPom) is 110, excellent offense. The defense checks in at 109, very poor.

There wasn’t a whole lot beside calling this an out and out blowout. Nothing you can dissect on tape or a grease board, just one team, Dayton, in this case completely outclassing Richmond. Dayton fans, as well as coach Miller and Co., would love to bottle this one.

Offensive efficiency: Dayton 95, Richmond 73

Very briefly before the post game quotes…

Things Dayton fans had to like….

  • Perimeter ball movement resulting in assists for 14 of their 24 field goals.
  • Three in double figures led by charles Cooke’s 14 points.
  • A 40-26 edge in points in the paint.
  • Limiting Richmond to one double digit scorer

Things you may not like:

  • 16 turnovers.
  • That one Richmond double figure scorer, T. J. Cline going for 25 points (not a good sign letting a player go off but in this case no one else from Richmond responded).
  • Shooting 3 of 14 from three.
  • Shooting 18 of 25 from the line. Didn’t matter here but in a one or two possession contest.

For the Flyer faithful, a night in new York to celebrate a victory and trip to the semis.

Post game quotes:

[su_testimonial name=”Archie Miller” photo=”http://www.blackburnreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/EP-310209846.jpg”]“Good start for us. Goal to advance in post season. Defense first half as good as its been. Defense carried us against a good offensive team. Sixteen turnovers on our end, must be more efficient. Talked about rebounding after our VCU game.” [/su_testimonial]

[su_testimonial name=”Charles Cooke” photo=”http://www.blackburnreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/ccc.png”]“We executed our game plan, key was getting it going early.”[/su_testimonial]

[su_testimonial name=”Archie Miller” photo=”http://www.blackburnreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/EP-310209846.jpg”]“We played late last Saturday, took a few days off get our legs back. Tuesday and Wednesday two of our best practices all season. Happy with effort and ball movement. We were lackluster on defense last few games but got it back today. Did a better job inside. Stopped them in the paint the first half that was a big key. Good to get this out of the way especially with Richmond winning yesterday. We got it done on defense. Transition and movement were good, found some mismatches early. In general we try to play inside out.” [/su_testimonial]

[su_testimonial name=”Chris Mooney” photo=”http://www.blackburnreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/chris_mooney.jpg”]“They (Dayton) outplayed us the entire game. Hard to believe a week or so we scored 84 points. We struggled offensively, dug a hole and never gave ourselves a chance to get out of it. Our defensive consistency was never there. We couldn’t get stops or do things on defense. That prevents any chance of getting a comeback.” [/su_testimonial]

Have your say!
